Get involved with Shopify at Algonquin College
Posted on Monday, January 20th, 2020
Looking to get started on your own digital storefront? Want to pick up some e-commerce tips and tricks? Algonquin College and Shopify are here to help!
A unique partnership between Algonquin College and Shopify, the Ottawa-based e-commerce giant, has resulted in the creation of close to 185 student-generated stores to date on Shopify’s platform, with opportunities open to many more student entrepreneurs with products or services to sell.
Under the partnership agreement, Shopify is giving two years of free access to its e-sales platform to any Algonquin College student who wants to participate. Christopher Doré, Professor and Co-ordinator, Business Management – Entrepreneurship, says the partnership is a natural fit with the College’s student body, especially for those with dreams of launching their own business.
“The partnership pairs an Ottawa-based company, where many of our grads have found employment, with our highly entrepreneurial students,” Doré says. “At orientation, I usually ask my students, ‘Who here wants to start a business?’, and 98 to 99 per cent raise their hand. They have come to us to gain the business skills to do so.”
Programs seeking access to the Shopify program for their students should contact Christopher Doré at dorec1@algonquincollege.com
