Data Privacy Day – January 28

Data Privacy Day is held every Jan.28 across the world, to bring awareness about the importance of protecting personal information.

As a student at this college it is your responsibility to protect your personal information. By learning and practicing some simple tips on how to do so, it helps build our culture of respecting privacy, enabling digital trust.

Tips

  • Mobile Security – Have a strong password and/or finger ID to gain access to your phone. Disable geolocation, camera and microphones when not in use. Before installing an app, make sure you understand the private policy agreement.
  • Use Strong Passwords – Make sure you are not using the same password for every account. Use at least 8 characters consisting of capitals, lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. Use a password manager such as LastPass.
  • Keep it up to Date – Make sure to install the latest software on all computers and mobile devices.
  • Social Media and Oversharing – Limit the amount of personal information shared online (birthday, school and/or work, location, etc.) and do not send any personal information to anyone over social media. Do not click on anything that looks questionable, if you see any suspicious activity online, report it.
