Create Your Own AC Superhero!

It’s the summer of superheroes on the silver screen (yes, again). With a new Spider-Man slinging in theatres, it’s about time we recognize that our campus is home to all the right elements for a great hero.

We don’t have an AC “bat signal” to shine into the sky, so we’re putting out a call to all Algonquin College caped crusaders! Do you have an idea for your own AC superhero? Post your ideas on Twitter using the hashtag #ACSuperhero! The best ideas will be included in a follow-up post. But before you let your imagination run wild, consider the following key factors:

What kind of courses would your homegrown superhero take? Our general interest courses alone could double as Superhero 101. For example: Introduction to Motorcycling, Photojournalism (the next Peter Parker?), Combat Kung Fu, and Chivalrous Swordplay.

You need an origin story. For example, we have a Photonics & Laser Technology program. That just sounds like the kind of place you could be bitten by a radioactive spider or transformed by gamma rays.

You need superpowers. The College’s four core values (caring, learning, integrity, and respect) are important for our hero’s “code,” but they don’t count as actual powers (well, maybe “caring” … if you’re a Care Bear).

One natural for Algonquin College… how about the ability to summon thunder and lightning? (The X-Men’s Storm clearly attended the wrong school.)

You need a look. Colour and costume are key. Sure, the College naturally goes green. But with the Green Lantern, Green Arrow and The Hulk… it’s a crowded field. So be creative.
