Corporate Training and FNIGC celebrates the success of the Fundamentals of OCAP® course
Posted on Thursday, July 25th, 2024
On July 23, Corporate Training proudly welcomed the First Nations Information Governance Centre (FNIGC) to celebrate the grand launch of the award-winning Fundamentals of OCAP® course, highlighting the essential Principles of Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession OCAP® related to First Nations’ data sovereignty.
The celebratory event took place at the Algonquin College’s 700 Sussex location and featured an informal lunch, followed by a spirited awards presentation honouring the dedicated staff of FNIGC and the talented members of the Corporate Training development team. The session commenced with an inspiring welcome message from Anita Tenasco, Director of Indigenous Initiatives, who set the tone for the celebration. Joanne Snell, Senior Learning Consultant at ACCT, provided an engaging introduction and insightful project background.
The course update began in 2020, driven by the need to reflect significant changes since the original course’s launch in 2015. The course was also redesigned to be more engaging and interactive, including captivating graphic images, animations, and narration produced by First Nations resources. This is a testament to the collaborative effort that led FNIGC to win the prestigious 2024 Picasso Award for Indigenous Leadership.
“Relationships are at the heart of who we are as First Nations People, and this course beautifully captures that essence,” said Kristine Neglia, Senior Manager of Education and Training at FNIGC.
“We are thrilled to have been selected to update the OCAP® program and to collaborate with FNIGC to produce this award-winning course,” said Jerry Van Olst, Manager of Business Development at ACCT.
