During home games, you can usually find me on my perch located behind the scorer’s table. From there you get a fantastic view of the game, the crowd, and the entire spectacle that is a varsity event. And let me tell you, when all cylinders are firing, it is quite the beast. After thirteen months in my position as Events and Communications Coordinator for the Thunder, I have gained a real appreciation for the process itself and the myriad of individuals that contribute to making an individual game a success, regardless of the outcome on the scoreboard. In a battle of two Ottawa Curling Club teams, Jenn Hanna and her team of Brit O’Neill, Stephanie Hanna and Karen Sagle scored two three-enders in a 10-8 victory over Team Homan who were returning to the Ontario Championships after beating Team Canada at the 2015 Scotties.
“We are just elated with the win and are beyond pumped to represent the province,” said Brit, a third year Algonquin College student in the Dental Hygiene program.
To make it to nationals, the team had to face four past champions plus Rachel Homan’s rink – the best women’s curling team in the world right now! “Being the underdog going into the final, we kept our composure and pulled out an amazing game!” Best of luck to Brit, Jenn, Stephanie, and Karen in Grande Prairie, Alberta – the Scotties Tournament of Hearts gets underway February 20 – 28.
What do a pair of mittens, a doll, a tea cup, a briefcase and a marble all have in common? Well, they’re inanimate. However, when left to the devices of some creative of Algonquin College’s Broadcasting – Television students, they can come to life. Students had one week to script, storyboard, shoot and post a 1 minute movie about an inanimate object – no dialogue was allowed. Here’s what the came up with…
