Every year, Algonquin College celebrates the incredible achievements of its alumni through the Alumni of Distinction Awards. These awards honour the extraordinary contributions our graduates make to the community while achieving career success. Here is a closer look at the Alumni of Distinction – Business Award recipient Wendy Beckles.
Today, Algonquin College kicked off the new academic year with a renewed sense of purpose and hope at the annual AC Vision event.
Scott Gonsalves, Director of Strategy and Planning at Algonquin College, emceed the event along with Sarah Gauen, Algonquin College’s Diversity and Inclusion Specialist.
“AC Vision is an opportunity for us all to reconnect with our purpose and why we are all here, understanding how our leadership is operationalizing our strategic plan, and explore the part we all play in our mission – to transform the hopes and dreams of our learners into lifelong success,” said Gonsalves.
In honour of the tenth anniversary of the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence (ACCE), we caught up with a few ACCE alumni to see what they’re up to now.
When Jeff McCoy decided to get out of a job he didn’t like, and into the trades, he chose Algonquin for his training mainly because it was convenient.
Now working as a licensed plumber, and having completed two trade programs at the College, McCoy believes he couldn’t have chosen better even if his education options had been far wider.
He was impressed by the flexibility of the instructors in his courses who readily adapted to different learning styles. “With the trades, one person is not always going to learn in the same way as the next person,” says McCoy. “I found (the Algonquin instructors) were really good in accommodating.”
