Today, Algonquin College kicked off the new academic year with a renewed sense of purpose and hope at the annual AC Vision event.
Scott Gonsalves, Director of Strategy and Planning at Algonquin College, emceed the event along with Sarah Gauen, Algonquin College’s Diversity and Inclusion Specialist.
“AC Vision is an opportunity for us all to reconnect with our purpose and why we are all here, understanding how our leadership is operationalizing our strategic plan, and explore the part we all play in our mission – to transform the hopes and dreams of our learners into lifelong success,” said Gonsalves.
Echoing the lifelong success of our learners, Gonsalves and Gauen welcomed local Ottawa alumni Sam Laprade. Laprade shared compelling remarks about her time as an Algonquin College student and as a longstanding member of the College community.
“It is a real honour and pleasure to be here with you today. It makes me emotional to talk about Algonquin College, being a student here really did change my life,” said Laprade.
The Algonquin College Executive Team followed up Laprade’s speech with compelling AC Vision talks of their own. Executive attendees included Chris Janzen, Senior Vice President Academic, Diane McCutcheon, Vice President Human Resources, Duane McNair, Vice President Finance and Administration, Krista Pearson, Registrar and Mark Savenkoff, Vice President Advancement and Strategy.
Other AC Vision talk speakers included Christine Kelsey, President Support Staff Union, Annette Bouzi, President Academic Union and Bolu Olutunda, Algonquin Students’ Association President.
The talks covered key points about the path forward for the 2022-23 academic year, such as indigenization, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and community.
Algonquin College President and CEO, Claude Brulé, also shared his words of wisdom for year that lay ahead, drawing on the roadmap laid out in the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan.
“Algonquin College really does help change our world for the better. And we will continue to do this together… with special attention to innovation and a commitment to quality in order to enhance the student experience,” said Brulé.
Brulé wrapped up the AC Vision event by extending his thanks to the Algonquin College community.
“Let me close out by offering my sincere thanks to each of you for your past contribution and for your continued hard work and dedication to make Algonquin College an outstanding place to learn, work and grow.”
