AC Dog Squad on Social!
Posted on Thursday, June 27th, 2019
The dog squad is Algonquin College’s employee-run therapy dog program. The therapy dog program was created to support and enhance the mental health and well-being of employees and students on campus, and maintain the College’s core values of caring, learning, integrity, and respect.
Volunteer pet owners and a College organizing committee joined forces in order to provide the benefits that therapy animals give, such as a reduction in stress and a greater sense of community engagement in schools or the workplace.
Animals admitted to the Dog Squad are assessed for suitability as therapy animals, and they are trained with professional handlers before participating in the program. Student ambassadors with the program will be present at all scheduled dog sessions with the dogs to assist their owners and answer questions from visitors.
If you’re on campus, look out for a therapy dog with a green jacket, and don’t forget to say hello!
