Posted on Thursday, February 21st, 2019
Algonquin College’s Co-op department has a new home in room C226, as it opened its doors to staff and students in its grand opening ceremony on February 20, 2019.
Vice-President, Innovation & Strategy, Doug Wotherspoon, RBC manager Rania Zammar, and co-op student Gurkirat Toor all shared words encouragement prior to the Wednesday ribbon cutting. Each speaker re-enforced how integral cooperative education is to the enrichment of education at Algonquin College.
“Co-op is one of the most important components of creating a truly experiential learning environment, which is what Algonquin prides itself on and wants to take into the future… and our sights are on being the most cooperative, Cooperative Education institution in the country,” Wotherspoon said.
The Grand Opening also included the announcement of a $150,000 gift to the co-op program from RBC — part of RBC’s Future Launch initiative. “At RBC we believe that investing in our youth is critical to Canada’s future,” Zammar said on Twitter. “RBC foundation is proud to support @AlgonquinColleg with a $150k gift to support the co-op program.”
Co-op at Algonquin College has seen incredible growth over just the past few years – boasting a 100% increase in the number of co-op students doing work-terms within the industry. This success is the result of our ever-growing partnership between our employers and the students, and employees of Algonquin College, and we have no plans on slowing down.
