The Crunch 2024: A Celebration of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

From November 15 to November 17, 2024, Algonquin College proudly hosted The Crunch, an interdisciplinary entrepreneurship competition that brought together students from four post-secondary institutions: Algonquin College, Carleton University, the University of Ottawa, and Collège La Cité.

Held annually during Global Entrepreneurship Week, The Crunch aims to engage the college community with Entrepreneurship and provide learners with opportunities to learn more about the startup life and what it takes to start their own business.

This year, 13 teams, consisting of over 65 students, competed by developing and pitching their unique business ideas. They addressed challenges in various industry categories, including health innovation, social impact, and emerging technologies.

“Events like The Crunch give students the invaluable opportunity to network, share ideas, and experience the challenge of collaboration. When ideas are voiced, they become more complex—perspectives clash, gaps are exposed, and solutions are refined. It’s a demanding process, but bringing students together from all of Ottawa’s post-secondary institutions to tackle challenges and build meaning is what truly matters. My hope is that students take this experience forward, continuing to shape ideas and create value for the future”, said Mattew Jerabek, Associate Manager, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre at Algonquin College.
