Coming 2021: Algonquin College SA Athletics and Recreation Centre!

Algonquin SA Athletics and Recreation CentreThe Algonquin SA Athletics and Recreation Centre is an exciting venture for the Algonquin College community, and will act as a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for students of all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities.

The facility, to be named ARC, or Athletics and Recreation Centre, includes top-of-the-line amenities – from fitness zones and golf simulation to a restaurant and a “discovery” pathway. The latter feature is a second-level running/walking track that winds through the building and grants users an overview of the first floor.

“Algonquin strives to be a leader in healthy living, and the ARC is the perfect addition to our efforts,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Cheryl Jensen. “Having a new space on this campus that allows all students to own their health in a personalized way is the perfect next step in our journey.”

The Algonquin Students’ Association broke ground on the new ARC in April, and the construction is set to continue until August 2021. The addition will bring students together for athletics, fitness, and recreation in one central location, and will have something for everyone to discover in a breathtaking facility.

SA President, Deijanelle Simon said “Only with increased capacity can we expand and create a more inclusive program that attracts a greater number of students to participate in physical and social activity.”

Here are some of the highlights students, staff, and employees can look forward to:

  1. Golf Simulator

What can students expect during the construction?

Construction will take place from April 2019 until mid 2021.

The complex will take up about 250 parking spots in Lot 8, and is to be located northeast of the Student Commons and across from the residence building.

The current Fitness Zone and Gymnasium will be operating as usual in the A building.
