Algonquin College Applauds Ontario Government’s $50M Investment in Colleges to Mark 50th Anniversary.

Algonquin College will receive new funding as part of the Ontario government’s plans to invest $50-million in each of the province’s 24 publicly assisted colleges.

Deb Matthews, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development, made the announcement on Monday as part of Colleges Week festivities in Toronto. She explained the funding is part of the province’s efforts to mark the 50th anniversary of the college system.

“This is wonderful news for Algonquin and for all our counterparts across Ontario,” said Cheryl Jensen, President of Algonquin College. “We always have projects in the works at our campuses and this injection of funds will ensure that our College can continue growing and evolving to better serve the needs of our learners.”

The funds will be used to “support colleges in undertaking major initiatives that enhance student learning, such as the purchase of specialized software for teaching, new lab and shop equipment and technology to modernize existing classrooms and labs, facility retrofits, and other projects.”
