Frequently asked questions (For Faculty)

What types of tests does CAL Test Services assist faculty with?

We assist with all supervised in-person tests — from quizzes to midterms to final exams — when you are unable to provide the requested accommodations in the classroom.

What is the deadline for students to book a test through CAL Test Services?

Booking deadlines for students:

  • Tests/Quizzes – must be booked at least seven (7) days in advance.
    • Count backwards 7 days from the day of the test. When counting, include the weekend, the day on which you’re booking the test, and the day of the test. For example, if you want to take a test on Friday, you would have to book it on the previous Friday before midnight.
  • *NEW* Midterms – all midterms/tests being written February 18 – 21 must be booked by Monday, February 3.
  • Final Exams – all exams/tests being written April 12-21 must be booked by Wednesday, March 19.

How will I know what I need to do in Brightspace?

We’ll send you this information after the 7-day deadline for booking tests (except final exams). For final exams, we’ll send you the information after the posted deadlines for each term.

How do I work in Brightspace?

Please visit Learning Management System (Brightspace) for resources and guides to help you make adjustments to tests in Brightspace.

I’ve approved a booking request, but the test details have changed. What do I do?

Please log back into the CAL Faculty Portal to make the necessary adjustments to the booking.

My test is unsupervised, but I’ve received a booking request. What do I do?

Email caltestservices@algonquincollege.com to cancel. We’ll email the student to let them know why it’s been cancelled.

Can I book tests on the student’s behalf?

No. Students must book their tests through the CAL Student Portal.

I have a booking request from a student, but I don’t have their letter of accommodation. What do I do?

Connect with the student to request a copy. Remind them that they need to share their letter of accommodation with their professors at the beginning of each term.

Who is responsible for requests for assistive technology?

It is the student’s responsibility. They must meet with an assistive technologist before taking a test to get the proper training.
