The CAL Team
The role of the CAL is to provide you with the academic accommodations and support you require due to disability. The accommodations you can receive are based on the confidential documentation you provide to the CAL.
The CAL follows a team approach that involves:
- You. As a student registered with the CAL, you are the leader of this team.
- Your Professors.
- Your Disabilities Counsellor, who works with you to develop a Letter of Accommodation and provides support for disability-related needs.
- Learning Strategists, who help you understand how you learn best and guide you on how to achieve your academic goals.
- Assistive Technologists, who help you identify and train with the assistive technology that is right for you.
Your Responsibilities
As a student, you have the following responsibilities:
- Self–identify by registering with the Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) and, where required, provide appropriate documentation of your functional impacts related to your disability. In the case of learning disabilities, a psychoeducational assessment designating a specific learning disability is required.
- Participate in the development of a Letter of Accommodation (LOA) together with a Disabilities Counsellor.
- Ensure your professors receive a copy of the LOA each term if you are seeking accommodations for that course:
- On-campus students need to send their LOA through the CAL Student Portal.
- AC Online students need to send their LOA to their Course Facilitators and the AC Online Exam Coordinator.
- Course Facilitator emails can be found on Brightspace and the Exam Coordinator can be emailed at OLexams@algonquincollege.com
- If you need help sending your LOA, please reach out to your Disabilities Counsellor.
- Discuss with faculty and/or course facilitators the accommodations as required.
- Consult with faculty and/or CAL if concerns or needs arise.
- Book tests and exam accommodations following the deadlines outlined on the CAL Test Services webpage.
- Access Learning Strategy and Assistive Technology support as needed.
- Abide by departmental, school, and College policies that apply to all students.
- Reach out for assistance from CAL and other relevant services as needed.
