Co-op Opportunities
Gain valuable work experience and build industry-specific career connections through paid, on-the-job training that can lead to full-time employment.
“I am so impressed by how well-prepared I feel to work in the hospitality industry. The hands-on experience, the great teachers, and the program curriculum prepared us so well for our careers. I feel very prepared and confident in my role here with the Marriott even though this is my first job in the industry.” – Sydney Lasher, Intern, Delta Grand Okanagan, Marriott
Students complete a minimum of two 500-hour paid work terms during two of the three summer periods while in the program. The School of Hospitality and Tourism provides a co-op seminar in level 2 of the program to help students prepare for their first co-op experience.
Who hires our students?
Earn while you learn. From Andaz Ottawa to Huff Estates in Prince Edward County, to Fairmont Lake Louise, students gain relevant industry experience and make industry connections to give you that competitive edge. Here are some recent industry co-op employers.
Does the program offer help in finding co-op placements?
We have a Co-op Officer who provides full support and resources in helping students find co-op positions. That being said, the responsibility of finding a co-op placement lies with the student. Students need to be proactive and willing to travel outside Ottawa to work at co-op placements.
Why do industry employers employ our co-op students every year?
“The BHTM program has become a staple for the hospitality industry in Ottawa and across Canada. In 2019, Marriott Hotels of Canada actively recruited more graduates for the industry leading “Marriott Voyager” program than any other hospitality degree program in Canada. Due to it’s dedicated, professional, and seasoned professors, students receive a well-rounded education which includes theoretical knowledge to hands-on experience via the innovative and relevant course curriculum. As an industry partner, Algonquin College is dedicated to ensuring that the students who successfully graduate from the program are prepared for the transition from an academic-minded student to a career-focused hospitality professional.”
