In addition to the technical skills I learned, I was able to enhance my soft skills such as communication, leadership, organization, adaptability and problem solving.

The professors of the program were nothing but supportive. They helped foster growth and provided effective guidance, which gave me the confidence to believe in myself and my abilities to flourish in the industry.

Overall, the program helped shape who I am today and provided me with a solid foundation to successfully grow in my career after college.”

Asian female graduate“During my studies in this program, I learned leading tourism industry theory, and built my new skills through different courses, workshops, and assignments. I was guided by very supportive professors who helped me a lot.

The program prepared me to work in different tourism sectors, such as tourism associations, airline industry, travel agencies, and hospitality, etc. It also prepared me to pass the TICO exam and earn my TICO certificate for my current job.

For me, this was a great program to achieve a successful tourism career in Canada. I couldn’t have entered successfully into the tourism industry without my experience at the Tourism -Travel Services program at Algonquin College.”
– Xia Hu, Project Coordinator at Tourism HR Canada/Customer Service Representative, Porter Airlines Inc.

Tourism - Travel Services female student outdoors“I chose this program because I love traveling. I have traveled around the world, visiting more than ten countries and five continents. It was this experience, as well as my interest in the sector, that brought me to the Tourism – Travel Services program.

I’ve enjoyed all the courses, however learning the Computer Reservations and using the Smart Point software is what I’ve enjoyed the most so far. Our professors describe everything using real life experience, which makes it more interesting to learn. For example, when Donna (one of the professors) gives lectures, it seems like we are having fun conversations. She has a great way of keeping you engaged.

I had a great experience studying at Algonquin College. As a mother of two kids, I had a study gap, but it was very easy for me to blend into the campus to learn and make new friends. I am very happy and positive about the whole experience of being a student at the college, which is a supportive and diverse learning environment. I appreciate the fact that the Canadian experience of studying is so hands-on – it leads you to your future career pathway. My advice to other international students: get involved in campus activities, manage your budget wisely, and prepare for Ottawa’s cold winters!”

Odu, female student smiling outdoors“I chose Tourism – Travel Services because I am a very adventurous person and am interested in traveling a lot and finding opportunities outside of Canada. Researching new countries and their cultures is something I have always been interested in. I love finding out what makes people so different.

My experience so far has been amazing; everyone is friendly and ready to help. I have met diverse groups of people and have been to school events which are fun and lively. As a class rep, I have been able to be more outspoken and outgoing. The program is all about finding new demographics, discussing their culture and how tourism affects them. I really enjoy my Geography class because of this.

Tourism gives you a global perspective into different cultures, economies… it changes your worldview. It’s also a growing industry with many diverse career opportunities.”

Dave, mature Tourism - Travel Services student outdoors“I came into the Tourism – Travel Services program as a mature student after an interesting and successful career in the Royal Canadian Air Force. During my time in the air force, I was able to see the world. I wanted to leverage this experience with my love for travel in the Tourism – Travel Services program at Algonquin College.

The program is a perfect fit, combining for my passion for visiting new and off-beat locations with my desire to help others find unique travel experiences. I feel I’ll be well-equipped to work in the travel/destination industry.”
