FAQ

How is the program structured?
This 13-month program starts in either September or January. Students study for three consecutive semesters (42 weeks), finishing the following August or December. Students then complete a 120-hour unpaid field placement as the final component of their studies during the subsequent semester. Classes may be scheduled at any time between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm from Monday to Friday.

Am I able to transfer credits from my previous studies?
The Paralegal program is accredited by the Law Society of Ontario. As part of that accreditation, each course must satisfy the Law Society’s competencies for the course. Because of this, the Law Society has indicated that exemptions/transfer credits should only be granted for courses taken in another accredited paralegal program. Unfortunately, courses taken at university or in college programs other than an accredited paralegal program cannot be accepted for transfer credit.

When are classes?
Classes may be scheduled at any time between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm from Monday to Friday.

Are classes online or in person?
This is a full-time program. Classes are face-to-face, on campus only. There is no online option for courses in this program.

What will I learn?
Students receive training in case management and trial preparation in areas such as Small Claims Court proceedings; provincial offences and summary conviction cases; provincial and federal administrative tribunals, such as landlord and tenant tribunals and the Immigration and Refugee Board; and workplace, health and safety issues. The curriculum also covers ethics and professional responsibility issues and the requirements of running a paralegal practice and reporting to clients.

Are there work placements?
After all coursework is successfully completed, students participate in a mandatory 120 hour unpaid field placement.

What licenses am I eligible to apply for after completing the program?
This program is accredited by the Law Society of Ontario. In order to become a licensed paralegal, the individual must have graduated from an accredited paralegal program, pass the licensing examination, and be of a good character.

What are the admission requirements?
Applicants must have earned an Ontario College Diploma, Ontario College Advanced Diploma or a degree. Should the number of qualified applicants exceed the number of available spaces, applicants will be ranked based on review of their post-secondary credential.
