Ontario Colleges’ Marketing Competition (OCMC)
The Ontario Colleges’ Marketing Competition (OCMC) is an annual case-based business competition for the best and brightest business students across Ontario. Students train for months in order to compete in one of eight industry specific case-based business challenges, in one of two individual events, and/or in the Quiz Bowl tournament. Given just 30 minutes to prepare students must read, analyze, and interpret a complex business case and create a comprehensive business plan complete with a 15-20 minute Power Point presentation. Their presentation must accurately address the businesses’ core problem and develop a realistic plan that will help the company resolve their issue(s).
This competition provides students with valuable time management, research, and oral presentation skills to help them stand out in today’s competitive workforce.
Algonquin’s students do not participate in OCMC for class credit. They choose to participate in OCMC in addition to a rigorous full-time study schedule and part-time work obligations. Furthermore, Algonquin students apply for a spot on the team in March and must maintain an above average GPA in order to compete. In addition to rigorous participation requirements Algonquin College focuses on the development of a strong team atmosphere – something that stands out at the competition and inspires rival colleges. This team environment helps our students develop a strong network of peers which later become an invaluable asset in their professional lives.
In previous years, Algonquin College OCMC alumni have gone on to win the Scotiabank Vanier | National Marketing Case Competition, launch successful award winning businesses, and have quickly become assets at their place of employment.
