FAQ
I am transferring from another program. Can I get credit for some courses?
There are many options to use your prior education to complete the degree with a reduced course load. Please see the list of pathways into the degree program here.
Does the school offer help in finding co-op placements?
The Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management (Honours) program has a designated Co-op Officer who provides support and resources to help you find co-op positions. That being said, the ultimate responsibility of finding a co-op placement lies with the student. You need to be proactive and willing to travel outside Ottawa to work at co-op placements. For more information, contact Matt Moore, Co-op Officer, at 613-727-4723 ext. 6248 or by email at moorem1@algonquincollege.com.
Where do students go for their co-op placements?
Students have gained work experience and made industry connections from top industry employers including: Albert at Bay Suite Hotel, Andaz, Delta Hotels, Best Western Plus, Fairmont Chateau Laurier, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts – Banff Springs, Chateau Lake Louise, and Jasper Park Lodge, Les Suites Hotels, Play Food & Wine, Marriott Hotels, Escape Bicycle Tours and Rentals, and The Westin Ottawa. See the full list and more information about co-op placements here.
Networking is a big part of getting a job in the hospitality industry. Does the BHTM program have clubs or associations which enable students to help?
Yes! We have our own Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management Student and Alumni Society. The mission of the BHTM Students & Alumni Society (SAS) is to provide the opportunity of mentorship, tutoring, networking and overall support to its members. The SAS will encourage, assist and inspire its members to reach their full potential in the hospitality industry.
The BHTM SAS liaises between the different levels of students within the BHTM program and BHTM alumni, to assert the needs of all the members involved. The Society makes decisions based on the needs of the members involved, with the integrity of the Society and BHTM program itself always in mind. The goals are to maximize benefits and support for all students and alumni involved.
