Celebration Time – School of Business Awards and Pembroke Campus Grand Opening
Posted on Friday, November 30th, 2012
There have been two significant celebrations this week. On Tuesday, under the masterful organization of Shannon Park, the School of Business Awards were held.
At the Awards Gala bursaries and scholarships are presented to outstanding students. This event requires four major components:
- The students – their dedication to their studies and effort to excel results in their recognition for awards;
- Their parents, siblings, significant others and friends – support is a critical part to their success;
- The professors and staff – the School of Business is blessed with outstanding faculty and staff; industry professionals who to pass on their knowledge and engage these future business leaders;
- The donors – alumni, employers and the business community who show a dedication and interest in assisting the next generation by their generous support.
After a brief networking and social opportunity, the award recipients were announced and presented with their awards by the donors with proud supporters cheering them on. This is one of my favourite events – graduation being the other.
On Thursday, the Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley campus in Renaissance Square in Pembroke was officially opened. As Dr. Kent MacDonald, Algonquin College president, observed, a new campus for Pembroke has been discussed for over 25 years. This state of the art facility was officially opened with acknowledgement to the College Board, the City of Pembroke and the Student association for making the dream a reality.
My friend and colleague, Karen Davies, dean of the campus, with her management team, worked tirelessly for the past 4 years to see this exciting new building opened.
Graduates from the five decades the campus has been in operation were introduced, including country recording artist, Jason Blaine whose sung, Renaissance, underscored the importance of this new structure to the college, the area and its students: https://www.algonquincollege.com/pembroke/main_entry/video_page_12.htm.
Congratulations to the ACOV family for a job well done.
