Learning and Teaching Services offers a variety of training options for teaching with Brightspace. We provide a self-paced asynchronous course, scheduled PD, customized PD, and 1 on 1 training.

Teaching with Brightspace is a self-paced micro-course that’s accessed via the Employee Learning Catalogue.

Algonquin College uses Brightspace, a Learning Management System (LMS), to provide a digital learning experience for all learners. This collection of resources and teaching guides is provided so that faculty can learn (or relearn) about how they might use various features and functions of the system to engage learners and enhance their learning experiences.

Self-Paced Training Course for New Faculty: Brightspace Essentials (ITAC)

The Introduction to Teaching at Algonquin College (ITAC) program is a series of workshops designed to prepare first-time faculty members to teach at Algonquin. Brightspace Essentials (one of the six courses) is a self-paced micro-course for new, part-time faculty at Algonquin College.

Want to create your own knowledge checks, quizzes, or exams in Brightspace? Would you like to adjust or improve upon the existing quizzes already built in your course? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you’ll be interested in joining this virtual session!

Brightspace Bootcamp: Assignments
Discover how to use the Brightspace Assignment tool to it’s full potential! In this 60-minute virtual session, we’ll cover basic assignment set-up, focusing on enhancing the student experience, tips for addressing common challenges, including late submissions, special accommodations, and streamlining the grading process, and how to use advanced features like group assignments.

Brightspace Bootcamp: Gradebook & Rubrics
The proper set-up and management of the Brightspace Grades tool will ensure your students are kept up-to-date on their progress in your course. This 90 minute session covers:

– How to manage and organize grades effectively
– Best practices for grading Brightspace assignments, quizzes, and discussions
– Using Brightspace Rubrics to streamline your grading workflow
– How to streamline and shorten grading time using Quick Eval; Brightspace’s tool for consolidating submissions

Brightspace Bootcamp: Time-Saving Tips & Tricks
This 90-minute virtual rapid fire session is dedicated to the tips, tricks, and best practices that can save you valuable time and energy. Whether you’re a new or experienced Brightspace user, you’ll be bound to learn something new! We will be exploring all areas of Brightspace. During the session, we will share the slide deck, which provides all the details for each tip or trick.

Brightspace Bootcamp: Is Your Brightspace Course Ready for Fall Launch?
Explore our approach on how to prepare your Brightspace course for the upcoming term. We’ll cover:

– The course copying process: how to copy content, assessments, and settings from a master or previous term’s course into your Fall 2024 course
– Addressing common challenges encountered during course copying and set-up
– Learner-centred tips for organizing (or re-organizing!) your course using your Weekly Schedule
