Ontario First Generation Bursary

The Ontario First Generation Bursary provides aid to post-secondary students with financial need who are attending publicly-assisted colleges and universities in Ontario. This bursary is specifically for students whose parents did not attend or complete post-secondary studies. If you are First Generation student with financial need, you may be eligible to receive a bursary. The bursary is available each year in the Fall and Winter terms.

Eligibility criteria

  • Your parent(s) have never participated in post-secondary studies on either a full or part-time basis anywhere in the world.
  • You’re enrolled in a first-entry undergraduate program; Graduate Certificate programs are not eligible.
  • You don’t already have a post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate.
  • You’re not receiving assistance through the Second Career program for your studies.
  • You meet the citizenship and Ontario residency requirements as outlined on the OSAP Application for Full-Time Students.
  • You must demonstrate financial need.

Instructions on how to apply

  1. Login to your ACSIS account and select “Apply for Bursary”.
  2. The one time application process includes all bursaries available at Algonquin College (including the First Generation Bursary).
  3. If you answer “Yes” to the First Generation question (see below), you will be automatically assessed for the First Generation Bursary.
  4. Please note, a letter is not required to complete your application.

DISCLAIMER
Not all eligible students will receive this bursary. There are limited funds made available to Algonquin College under the First Generation Bursary. Applications for this bursary will exceed the funds available, and the bursary will be awarded to students in the most financial need as determined by the online application. Students can only receive one First Generation Bursary each academic year.
