Real-Time Quality Control Decision Support Dashboard

Electronics manufacturing companies face increasing pressure to deliver high-quality products in a competitive market. The testing process involves multiple stages, requiring real-time visibility into key quality metrics like test duration. Without this visibility, operational managers struggle to detect out-of-control processes, leading to defects and increased costs. Current quality control processes are often time-consuming and costly, lacking the precision required to meet rigorous industry standards and demands for product reliability. The main research question defined was: “How to develop an integrated web-based solution to provide real-time visibility of quality performance through a defect analysis and variation analysis dashboard?” This research developed a web-based quality control decision support dashboard, tailored for electronic manufacturing companies, to improve the monitoring of production processes. The dashboard integrates real-time data collection and analysis to monitor key quality metrics, providing immediate visibility into test station performance. A flagging mechanism for failures allows for swift corrective actions, minimizing defects and enhancing product reliability. A prototype of this dashboard was implemented in Ciena, helping to identify and measure test process non-conformance, reduce return rates, and lower costs associated with rework and warranty claims. The key contribution of this solution lies in its ability to revolutionize how electronic manufacturing companies monitor and manage their quality processes.
