A Scoping Review to Inform Nursing Care of 2SLGBTQIA people

We supported CANAC in conducting a scoping review to summarize the existing evidence on nursing care for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals with HIV in Canada, with the aim of informing nursing care practices for this population. This involved defining inclusion/exclusion criteria, screening and selecting relevant literature, and extracting key information using Covidence.

The S.A.F.E. Ottawa Resource Guide

The S.A.F.E. (Stop All Falls Everywhere) Ottawa Resource Guide is a comprehensive, student-created tool that consolidates fall prevention resources across Ottawa. The project is in collaboration with the S.A.F.E. Ottawa Coalition, which a local collaborative with a mission to reduce the incidence of falls in home environments. Members of the coalition, including Ottawa Public Health, BuildABLE, Council on Aging of Ottawa, Healthcraft and many others, are working to raise awareness about safety features and home adaptations for all ages, reduce stigma related to safer bathrooms and safer stairs, and advocate for policy initiatives. This detailed resource guide aims to address the challenge of fragmented fall prevention resources in Ottawa, providing residents with easy access to vital support and services for safer, independent living.

Addressing Malnutrition in Seniors at Centretown Community Health Centre

This community health nursing project explored factors that contribute to malnutrition in the senior population served by Centretown Community Health Centre. The project included the development of appropriate resources to target malnutrition and identified a suitable screening tool to be used during primary care nursing home visits.

Empowering Care: Bridging Knowledge for Carefor Support Workers

“Empowering Care: Bridging Knowledge for Carefor Support Workers” is a project that partners with Carefor, which is Eastern Ontario’s largest not-for-profit home care and community support services registered charity. Carefor offers holistic home care and community support services, as well as working in collaboration with Innercity Health to serve the unhoused adult community in Ottawa. The focus for this project was to develop tailored educational modules that address key gaps in knowledge and skill for community client care workers. The modules focus on the topics of diabetes management, ostomy care, catheter care, Naloxone and medication administration and wound care. The overall goal of these educational modules is to enhance safety and knowledge to improve the quality of care provided to Carefor’s underhoused clients.”

Taboo Topics Tuesday: Enhancing Community Understanding of Disability

“Taboo Topics Tuesday: Enhancing Community Understanding of Disability” is a student-led podcast that includes four episodes aimed at addressing the often overlooked and uncomfortable issues surrounding disability and accessibility. The podcast explores and sparks conversations on taboo topics, challenging societal misconceptions, and promoting awareness through honest conversations. By delving into the complexities of disability, the series seeks to amplify voices often marginalized in mainstream discourse, fostering a more inclusive environment for all. Each episode features personal stories and practical solutions to help listeners better understand the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and the importance of creating accessible and equitable spaces. Through candid discussions on difficult and sometimes controversial subjects, “Taboo Topics Tuesday” encourages critical thinking, empathy, and meaningful dialogue to break down barriers and promote lasting change within communities. This project is partnered with BuildABLE: a nurse-led accessible renovations company. In addition to completing accessible renovations for people living with disabilities, BuildABLE is also heavily involved in advocacy initiatives and working towards creating more inclusive communities. Taboo Topics Tuesday will be freely shared on a YouTube channel and through BuildABLE’s social networks.
