UN Sustainable Development Goals Youth Training Conference

Looking to incorporate sustainability into your curriculum? Look no further!

Algonquin College will be hosting a Sustainable Development Goals Youth Training conference in the Winter 2019 semester. SDGs Youth Training Canada is a project of the Foundation for Environmental Stewardship (FES), a registered charity founded in 2012. Their mission is to educate and empower the final generation who can solve climate change to create a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future. SDGs Youth Training Canada 2017 mobilized 5,900+ students from 77 post-secondary institutions at 32 training sessions across Canada.

This workshop will not only educate students on sustainability and the SDGs, but will also engage them through workshops and team exercises.

Parking: The weekend parking fee will be $5/day in Lots 8, 9, 10 and 12.

Note: Red, Green, Black and Orange permit holders (Lots 8, 9, 10, 12) do not need to pay additional for evening/weekend parking in these lots.

Lunch will be provided but we would like to ask participants to bring food for the food donation for the food cupboard. Also, in support of the theme of sustainability, we ask that you bring your own water bottle or travel mug for beverages.

Job Opportunity for BIT Students

Algonquin’s Office of Applied Research and Innovation (ARI) have three paid positions open to 2nd and 3rd year students from the Bachelor of Information Technology – Network Technology program. The successful candidates will receive training by highly experienced professionals from CENGN, Telus and Inocybe. The main topic of this hands-on training will be Software-Defined Networks. The training will take place either during the Winter semester or the summer of 2017.

Apart from the obvious benefit of getting paid to receive training in a cutting-edge technology, the trainees will have great opportunities to expand their professional network with senior engineers and hiring managers from these leading companies.

Juniper Networks JNCIA-JUNOS (Free Training & Certification)

The global Juniper Networks Academic Alliance (JNAA) program in partnership with CENGN and the University of Ottawa is offering students the opportunity to be come JNCIA trained and certified – for FREE.

This program is being offered at no cost to post secondary students and faculty. The course has been designed for networking, engineering, and computer science students with beginner/intermediate knowledge of networking.

The first three days are Juniper instructor-led training that combines content from the Introduction to the Junos Operating System (IJOS) and Junos Routing Essentials (JRE) classes to provide students with an understanding of the Junos OS, networking fundamentals, and basic routing and switching. On the fourth day students will take the JNCIA-Junos certification exam, one of the fastest growing networking certifications in the industry.

The program will be held at the University of Ottawa on Feb 16-19, 2016 – it is open to all students including Algonquin and Carleton students.

Whew!… March is one month that always seems to move fast! This is the month where, in additional to our usual tasks, we start planning the summer projects.
