Taboo Topics Tuesday: Enhancing Community Understanding of Disability

“Taboo Topics Tuesday: Enhancing Community Understanding of Disability” is a student-led podcast that includes four episodes aimed at addressing the often overlooked and uncomfortable issues surrounding disability and accessibility. The podcast explores and sparks conversations on taboo topics, challenging societal misconceptions, and promoting awareness through honest conversations. By delving into the complexities of disability, the series seeks to amplify voices often marginalized in mainstream discourse, fostering a more inclusive environment for all. Each episode features personal stories and practical solutions to help listeners better understand the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and the importance of creating accessible and equitable spaces. Through candid discussions on difficult and sometimes controversial subjects, “Taboo Topics Tuesday” encourages critical thinking, empathy, and meaningful dialogue to break down barriers and promote lasting change within communities. This project is partnered with BuildABLE: a nurse-led accessible renovations company. In addition to completing accessible renovations for people living with disabilities, BuildABLE is also heavily involved in advocacy initiatives and working towards creating more inclusive communities. Taboo Topics Tuesday will be freely shared on a YouTube channel and through BuildABLEā€™s social networks.
