Project Description:
Canada, a prime destination for international students all over the world, has now been our home for about 7 months. Despite the country’s culture of kindness and gratitude, a lot of students feel homesick and find it very tough to revisit their culture and their customs here. Most international students deal with school while trying to make ends meet, some of them even working 40 hours a week. What we all need is a night to remind ourselves of our roots, a reminiscence of our cultures, all we need is… a call back home.
The project is a fundraiser event in affiliation with the Make A Wish Foundation to raise money for terminally ill children. This event is a ticketed event where people are encouraged to wear their ethnic costumes and share folktales and legends from their homes. The project also plans to have party games for additional revenue. All proceedings from this event go to Make A Wish Foundation.
Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child’s wish to life because a wish is an integral part of a child’s treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, Make-A-Wish is the world’s leading children’s wish-granting organization, serving children in every community in Canada, and in more than 50 countries worldwide.
The main objective of this project is to create a homely environment for international students to wear their colors and see the colors from other worlds as well, all while standing together for completing the actual scope, i.e. raising as many funds as we can for the terminally ill.
