Muskrat Lake Watershed
Posted on Monday, April 20th, 2015
Near Cobden, Ontario Algonquin College is sampling the Muskrat Lake Watershed to determine the sources and effects of nutrients such as phosphorous. The Researchers, including Sarah Hall and Julie Sylvestre explain that there are multiple sources of nutrients loading into the watershed and that their research will improve water quality by determining how to mitigate nutrient loading at different parts of the Muskrat Lake Watershed.
Tanner Roderick and Allison Rosien, two co-op students from the Environmental Technician Diploma Program, collected water quality and quantity data and conducted hydrology measurements at 28 sites on the Muskrat Lake watershed.
The data is analyzed by the Ontario Ministry of Environment and is to be interpreted by students and experts in the fall. Information will be distributed to the Muskrat Watershed Council for public dissemination through workshops and public consultations.
