New technology is going to let the construction industry do great things! The College has recently been awarded a significant funding grant to enhance our ability to conduct applied research projects in construction and building sciences. The Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), a federal organization that helps institutions like Algonquin work with Industry to develop new technologies, is supporting us in our efforts to make our College a centre for cutting-edge research for the Construction Industry. The College’s new Construction Research Centre will be a place for companies to work with students, using state-of-the-art equipment, with the goal of creating new designs, developing better ways of working together and of looking at buildings in a different light. Some of the equipment that will help us do this includes 3D scanners to map out buildings quickly and precisely, tele-collaboration tools to connect the people who work in the Construction Industry together with the ease of a smart phone tap and thermo-graphic cameras that can let us actually see where heat flows in and out of a building to make sure it goes where it should. The Construction Research Centre is still forming up and finalizing the CFI award; Plans are being checked, projects are being proposed and companies are being sought out to work with us to achieve our goals.

Do you want to be a part of this exciting future? Of course you do! Contact the College’s Office of Applied Research and Innovation to find out how you can be a part of the action.
