Pathway Explorer Profile: Dante Santaromita Villa

St. Pius High School student Dante Santaromita Villa is getting a head start on a prospective accounting career through the dual credit program.
Succeeding with an A average in Accounting Concepts I heading into his final major test, Santaromita Villa applied and received conditional acceptance into the full-time accounting program at Algonquin.
“I like how we cover the fundamentals of accounting so I have a background for the college program,” said Santaromita Villa.
While he contemplated journalism as an option, the dual credit course has helped him decide on a direction heading into postsecondary studies and has given him a sense of what path he wants to follow for a career.
“I’d like to be an accountant for a small firm at first and work my way up from there”

In addition to his own success in the course, dual credit support teacher Dianne Langlois remarked on Santaromita’s willingness to go the extra mile to help a classmate in need.
“He spent an extra half hour with the prof and a friend of his to help him understand something his friend was struggling with,” said Langlois. “He’s a pretty special student.”
The grade 12 student has three siblings who have graduated from postsecondary already. His two sisters attended the University of Ottawa, while his brother graduated with an architecture diploma at Algonquin. His brother is now working for the city of Ottawa in building inspections.
After witnessing his brother’s successful transition from college into the workforce in his field of choice, Santaromita Villa was encouraged to follow the same pathway at the college.
“My brother graduated has a job doing what he wants,” said Santaromita Villa. “My one sister graduated from university and is working two jobs, but neither are in her field.”
