Pathway Explorer Profile: Cole Zervos
Posted on Tuesday, January 26th, 2016
Cole Zervos, a grade 12 South Carleton High School student, arrived at the dual credit pathway by way of the Special High Skills Major (SHSM) program. The ‘SHSM’ program allows students to focus on a career path that aligns with their skills and interests while earning a high school diploma, connecting students with reach-ahead opportunities such as the dual credit program at the college.
Zervos is currently taking the Trades Exploration course in the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence. The course provides a practical discovery of various trade specializations, starting with lessons in sheet metal before moving into automotive and machining later in the semester.
“It’s both a lot of fun and great experience for me,” says Zervos. “I enjoy my teacher very much.”
For Zervos, the course is helping to define and advance his career aspirations, allowing him to make a more informed decision about pursuing a specific trade area.
“I think I want to go down the machine path for a career”

Zervos says that the course already has him feeling more prepared for a full-time college program such as ‘Pre-Trades.’
“I get to understand how it all works and how the teachers will present themselves.”
