How did you learn about the dual credit program? Who did you complete your application with?
My guidance counsellor recommended the dual credit program to me. It was suggested as a way of getting needed credits. I completed my application with Ms. Dixon Rothwell, my guidance counsellor.
Did you attend an orientation session? What did you find most helpful about orientation?
Yes, I attended but there was a hiccup with the tour. The orientation was kind of confusing.
Did you think you were you prepared for the course?
NA
Do you think the dual credit was a good fit?
Mr. Poaps was a great teacher and a nice guy. It was a good fit because I have always enjoyed drawing. It is a major thing I have done in my life. My class was on Thursdays, 1:00-4:00, the dual credit program didn’t interfere with high school class because I was in full day co-op.
Did you require any accommodations? Were your needs meet?
I have an IEP (Individual Education Plan). I did not end up needing any help. I was okay on my own.
How was transportation?
Fine, I took the city bus from home… off March Rd. I had to learn how to use public transit.
How comfortable were you with the technology aspect of the course?
NA
What were the greatest differences between high school and college?
Best Part: To do something I enjoyed, and being with people who enjoyed doing this subject as well, and a teacher with a good sense humour.
If you needed to communicate with your College instructor, what was the best way?
I talked directly to teacher and support staff when I needed help.
Challenges?
The shading project was the most challenging. I eventually got the hang of it.
Would you recommend that other students take a dual credit? Why or why not?
Yes, it was a good experience.
What do you hope to do once you’ve graduated from High School?
I have been accepted in the Performing Arts at Algonquin College.
Last Say/best advice
The dual credit program helped me graduate from high school. It was a good first step to learning how college worked. It is different from how high school is. The hours of our course … semesters are shorter.
