How did you learn about the dual credit program? Who did you complete your application with?

I found out about the dual credit program because my English teacher that teaches normal high school English was my film studies teacher and mentioned it to me. I thought it was a good idea. I found out in December of first semester. I thought it was a good idea to get a credit for next year.

Did you attend an orientation session? What did you find most helpful about orientation?

NA

Did you think you were well prepared?

Yes. I knew the basics of writing essays. It’s a good course.

Do you think the dual credit was a good fit?

Yes. It taught me how to write essays better than I could before. It prepares me for next year.

Did you require any accommodations? Were your needs meet?

I had an IEP (Individual Education Plan) for taking notes because I wasn’t good at it back in Grade 9 and 10, but I caught up. I don’t use it, but it’s still there just in case.

How was transportation?

NA

How comfortable were you with the technology aspect of the course?

Good. I am comfortable with technology. Using blackboard was fine. It was a good system. I didn’t need any tech support.

What were the greatest differences between high school and college?

It’s harder, obviously.

Assessment and evaluation: I found it odd how it was a running mark. It was different from high school. It was easy, though.

Is there one you like more than the other? Not really. English is English. They were pretty normal deadlines. There was nothing that I was stressed about. It was reasonable. It’s harder, obviously.

If you needed to communicate with your College instructor, what was the best way?

I was able to communicate with both the college instructor and the High School teacher pretty well. I didn’t have to email her, but I had help in class with her.

Good support by both of them.

Challenges?
Some days, when I wasn’t there, to contact the teacher to tell her I wasn’t there. Missing a class for college is a bigger deal.

Would you recommend that other students take a dual credit? Why or why not?

Yes!

What do you hope to do once you’ve graduated from High School?

I am coming to Algonquin next year for electrical engineering. This course is going to help me communicate better with my teacher.

Last Say/Best advice

You get an extra credit for next year and it’s pretty easy to do. The way we learn is like it’s preparing you for the next level, which is college and university. Pay attention when you’re in the classes. Make sure you get your work done.

Dual credit is good and I would take it if I were you.
