How did you learn about the dual credit program? Who did you complete your application with?

Mr. Legere, our SHSM teacher, talked about a dual credit in Voice in our Music class. I attended a VOICE- Congregated class, Wednesday, 1:00-4:00.

I completed my application with guidance.

Did you attend an orientation session? What did you find most helpful about orientation?

Yes, I attended the orientation session that included a tour of campus. The blackboard info was helpful and I got to mingle with people in the class.

Do you think the dual credit was a good fit?

The course was a good fit for me, because I was learning vital information about my area of interest and future pathway. It was very interactive learning. I spoke with the instructor if I needed help. The assignment was fun. I was well prepared for the program.

How was transportation?

Transportation was challenging. It was a long day. It took two hours to get there and two hours to get back. It was my main reasons for leaving the course. The time commitment was too much for a grade 12 student missing class time, and the long hours travelling.

Would you recommend that other students take a dual credit? Why or why not?

I would recommend this course for anyone interested in music, to see how vocalists learn.

What do you hope to do once you’ve graduated from High School?

Next year, I will be attending St. Lawrence College for Music Theatre.

Last say/best advice

It was a very hard decision to drop a class I enjoyed. Due to my high school classes, travelling and working part time, it was very challenging to juggle all these things and have good grades.

I missed the first class because I was in a school production. The dual credit coordinator was not pleased about me missing the first night of the course. The college instructor was very understanding.

Suggestion: Students may have to plan in advance so you can make sure your schedule can accommodate for it.
