How did you learn about the dual credit program? Who did you complete your application with?

I found out about the dual credit program from my guidance counsellor. She heard that Algonquin College was offering this technology course for the first time. She knew it was a good course for me! We did the application together.

Did you attend an orientation session? What did you find most helpful about orientation?

Yes, I attended the orientation.

Do you think the dual credit was a good fit?

Yes, this dual credit was a good fit because I was interested in construction and computer generated modelling.

Did you require any accommodations? Were your needs meet?

No

How was transportation?

I drove. Mileage coverage was provided. All costs were covered.

How comfortable were you with the technology aspect of the course?

I was very comfortable with the technology aspect of the course because I was very interested in computer-generated modelling.

What were the greatest differences between high school and college?

Once a week I had to miss a half-day of classes at high school, but it was not a problem. The class size was much smaller at college. It was a great introduction to college and to find out what programs like that were at the college.

If you needed to communicate with your College instructor, what was the best way?

I just spoke to the college instructor.

Challenges?

It was a very different course with a quicker learning curve.

Would you recommend that other students take a dual credit? Why or why not?

I would recommend taking a dual credit because there are such a wide variety of courses. These courses bridge high school and college.

What have you been doing since graduating from High School?

After high school, I went to Carleton for Architecture for a year and left the program. Then I went to Algonquin into the Architectural Technician program (2 year). The Dual credit was helpful for this course. I received the dual credit bursary from Grade 12. From there, I went to architectural advanced diploma (1 year) in architectural technology.

I worked for a year out west in piping engineering.

Currently, I am back at Algonquin College studying Building Science Engineering (Applied degree). I have one year left.

Last say/best advice

Taking a dual credit was helpful in leading me in the right direction for my career path.
