How did you learn about the dual credit program? Who did you complete your application with?
My guidance counsellors recommended this course as I was going to Algonquin. I completed my application with Mr. Malloy, my counsellor.
Did you attend an orientation session? What did you find most helpful about orientation?
NA
Did you think you were you prepared for the course?
Yes, but I wasn’t quite sure at first.
Do you think the dual credit was a good fit?
The dual credit program was a better fit than I thought it would be.
I knew I wasn’t quite ready for a university program but I needed a course that was a little more challenging.
Did you require any accommodations? Were your needs meet?
No
How was transportation?
NA
How comfortable were you with the technology aspect of the course?
Yes
What were the greatest differences between high school and college?
The transition between college and high school was quite seamless. The instructors worked well together and you could choose which format to capture your own style of learning.
Assignments were well-managed – hard copies and online, due dates. It was black and white and both teachers clearly communicated this.
It definitely prepared you well for college, with the comforts of High School but giving you a little taste of what you are going to get at college.
If you needed to communicate with your College instructor, what was the best way?
You could always reach at least one of them — our college instructor or classroom teacher — if you ever needed help.
Would you recommend that other students take a dual credit? Why or why not?
I have been speaking to a lot of students in younger grades about this dual credit Math course and telling them it’s actually quite easy. You are considered a college student but with a workload that you can start out with from high school.
What do you hope to do once you’ve graduated from High School?
I am going Algonquin College for Pre Animation. I thought it would be good to add to my repertoire.
Last say/Best advice
Best experience: In the first few weeks, when we met Ms. Catrinia, our college instructor. It was so neat to have a college professor right there in the classroom with you. As you got to know both teachers together, we had so much fun. It was interesting to see how they each had different teaching styles and at the same time really cared about us. They could still have an authoritarian and friendly relationship with us.
Best advice: Be able to have all the supplies necessary and to not always depend on your electronic devices. If you had a unit that deals with manual skills for accuracy, the devices can become obsolete.
