How did you learn about the dual credit program? Who did you complete your application with?

My co-op teacher said, “Hey, this is what you want to do.” So I did it. My co-op teacher approached me. I filled out application with my co-op teacher.

Did you attend an orientation session? What did you find most helpful about orientation?

There were two orientations — one for the actual course and one for the OYAP students.

OYAP was kind of boring. It was stuff I already knew that my co-op teacher had briefed me on. There was repetitive information. The Algonquin one overlapped the OYAP. They both went over Blackboard and ACSIS and the student tools. That was helpful.

It’d be good if they knew it overlapped. Both orientation sessions were a bit repetitive.

Do you think the dual credit was a good fit?

It’s a dual credit so I get the credits I need. Also, I did co-op before this. I was able to fit it into my timetable.

I love it. I was already applied for the actual Aesthetics diploma program. It just kind of worked out that this was a better opportunity since its shorter and I can also do the aesthetics. It’s basically all hands on. It’s a good fit.

Did you require any accommodations? Were your needs meet?

I did have an IEP (Individual Education Plan), but I didn’t carry it over since it’s so old and I don’t use it.

How was transportation?

I bussed. Bus tickets were provided. I had no problems.

How comfortable were you with the technology aspect of the course?

Fine.

What were the greatest differences between high school and college?

The biggest difference was the gap between the older girls and the OYAP students. There are actually two OYAP students.

Assessment and evaluation: Perfect. Meets my needs.

Challenges? Best thing about course?

The challenge. I like being challenged.

If you needed to communicate with your College instructor, what was the best way?

I have a couple of my teachers’ phone numbers. The more professional route is school email. Pierre, the Dual Credit Support teacher, checks in on me.

Would you recommend that other students take a dual credit? Why or why not?

NA

What do you hope to do once you’ve graduated from High School?

I’m graduating this year and I applied to go to Algonquin. I’ve been accepted into the aesthetician program. This is a good lead in.

Last say/best advice

The class is dynamic. It’s a smaller class of eight people. There are no cliques; we all just have lunch together and we are closer than most other classes. Being with people of all ages, they would help me out if I needed it.
