1. Introduce yourself and share how Algonquin College helped you in your career?

I am the president of Soublière Constructors, a trade subcontractor across Ontario, Quebec and the east coast of Canada. I came to Canada in 2014 as an international student. I studied Green Architecture and had my classes in the ACCE building, an environment that nurtured a passion for architecture and construction. The program gave us a transparent view of construction in Canada. Our professors were industry leaders who inspired us to pursue a career in the field.

2. What personal passions or experiences drive your commitment to community service and engagement?

I have always been passionate about buildings and creating something from scratch. Once I got into construction, I realized that I could build spaces where people can live, study, get treatments and enjoy recreational activities. Once that end-user reality set in, it was very natural and easy for me to give it my all. At Soubliere, we have just completed a building that 28 Indigenous women get to call their home. We are currently working on the Shepherds of Good Hope facility in downtown Ottawa.

3. What emerging trends in your field excite you, and how do you plan to be a part of these advancements?

Inflation has created this immense need of finding value engineering in construction, but this also leads to innovation in the field. I believe prefabs, affordable housing, as well as smart, sustainable buildings and communities are the way of the future, and that excites me a lot.

4. What advice would you pass on to Algonquin College’s graduating class?

  1. Don’t be shy to ask for help from people who are in the roles that you want to be in. Make sure you are clear about what you are looking for from them, why you are asking and how it will benefit you. Every interaction in the professional field could lead to your next opportunity, so make sure to leave a good lasting impression.
  2. Look for mentorship, growth opportunities, and money last.

5. Tell us your life’s story in five words.
