The Aggarwal Paramedic Bursary

A former Algonquin College Paramedic program student who now works as a mortgage broker has set up a bursary to help students in the Paramedic program succeed.

Rahul Aggarwal withdrew from the program just before graduation in 2019 when he realized he wanted to follow a different path. Aggarwal said paramedics meet people in crisis but never see their outcomes, which he found difficult.

“Everyone goes into the (Paramedic) program because they want to help people,” he said.

Aggarwal, who came to Algonquin College from Mississauga where he now works, said working in the financial sector will allow him to generate greater wealth and so help more people through philanthropic activity.

He said that while he was a student he recognized that colleges have great funding needs, and that investing in colleges and students makes sense. His positive experience as a student led him to set up a bursary at the College.

The Aggarwal Paramedic Bursary is awarded each year to two first-year students in the Paramedic program, based on financial need.

His own philanthropic efforts now well underway, Aggarwal hopes to light a philanthropic spark in others. “My goal is to get other people to join me in donating to the (Paramedic) program,” he said.
