Sashien Godakandae, a successful entrepreneur and Algonquin College alumnus, has established the Sashien Godakandae Bursary for Aspiring Entrepreneurs. This bursary, created to support students in the business program, reflects Sashien’s commitment to fostering the next generation of innovative business leaders.

Growing up with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Sashien started his first ventures while still in college, including a marketing agency and a music entertainment company. His journey was driven by determination and a desire to succeed, qualities he hopes to inspire in the recipients of this bursary.

“My goal is to create opportunities for students who may not have the financial means to fully pursue their education,” said Sashien. “I want to support those who are driven and passionate about entrepreneurship, just as I was. This bursary is a way for me to give back to the community that helped shape my career.”

Sashien’s decision to support Algonquin College is also influenced by his personal connections to the institution. “Algonquin College has always been important to me, the professors and the hands-on learning experiences were instrumental in my growth. I want to ensure that other students have similar opportunities to thrive,” he added.

The Sashien Godakandae Bursary for Aspiring Entrepreneurs will provide $1,000 annually for five years, offering crucial support to students who demonstrate both financial need and a strong entrepreneurial drive. Sashien hopes that this bursary will not only alleviate financial burdens but also inspire other alumni and community members to contribute and support future students. “We are grateful to Sashien for his support in establishing this bursary. Through his leadership, we will continue to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship amongst our students, and this generosity will benefit students and the organizations that employ our graduates,” reflects Mark Savenkoff, Vice President, Advancement and Strategy.

“I believe in the power of education and the importance of giving back. My hope is that this bursary will help nurture the next generation of business leaders who will go on to create positive impacts in our community and beyond,” Sashien concluded.
