The Joyce Family Foundation makes a historic $2 million gift to Algonquin College
Algonquin College is proud to announce a historic $2 million gift from The Joyce Family Foundation for the establishment of a significant endowment to support students facing financial barriers. This donation, the largest single contribution to Algonquin College to date, underscores the Foundation’s commitment to higher education and its belief in the potential of every student.
The Joyce Family Foundation Bursary supports learners that demonstrate financial need and resilience in overcoming challenges. Each bursary recipient receives a renewable bursary of $5,000 for the duration of their program, which sets them up to succeed throughout their academic journey at the College.
The College officially announced and celebrated the new bursary during its Philanthropy Champions event at the Ottawa campus on October 28, 2024.
“The Joyce Family Foundation is deeply committed to fostering educational opportunities for those who face barriers to accessing higher education. Our bursaries are designed with the understanding that financial need should not dictate one’s ability to achieve academic and personal success,” said The Honourable Ed Lumley, Chair of The Joyce Family Foundation. “By supporting students at Algonquin College through this endowment, we aim to catalyze a cycle of success, affirming our belief that education is a pivotal steppingstone for at-risk youth in Canada.”
“This unprecedented contribution from The Joyce Family Foundation exemplifies the profound impact that generosity and vision can have on our community,” said Claude Brulé, President and CEO of Algonquin College. “The endowment will not only significantly enhance our ability to support our students but also serve as a profound statement of faith in their futures. On behalf of Algonquin College, I extend our deepest gratitude to The Joyce Family Foundation for their unparalleled support and belief in the value of education.”
Mark Savenkoff, Vice President of Advancement and Strategy at Algonquin College, highlighted the importance of such contributions: “Investments in education create a ripple effect, benefiting not just the individual recipients but our community as a whole. The Joyce Family Foundation Bursary ensures that financial barriers do not hinder the aspirations of our students. It empowers us to help more students access quality education, laying the groundwork for their success and, by extension, the prosperity of our society.”
