Ciena collaboration gets the latest technology into students’ hands

For more than two decades, Ciena has collaborated with Algonquin College on its world-class Optophotonics Lab, providing students with skill-building learning opportunities and extensive hands-on experience with the latest technology in the telecommunications industry.

Today, Ciena continues to support the Lab through upgrades and real-world knowledge transfer that help prepare students for long-term success in the tech sector.

To this end, Ciena engineers and Algonquin students are currently working together on research and development initiatives such as improving the speed of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology. These projects expose students to software and hardware design concepts, equipping them with the applied skills critical for many high-tech roles. Ciena also participates in Algonquin’s Board of Governors, contributing management and technical know-how.

Through Ciena’s continued support, Algonquin College can offer an updated curriculum with access to the industry’s most innovative technology, putting its students on a path to a bright future.
