Posted on Wednesday, March 4th, 2020
Did you know that the Student Learning Centre,
as part of the Algonquin College Library, offers Peer Tutoring Services?
Here is everything you need to know!
What is Peer Tutoring?
Peer Tutoring Services hires and trains students for one-on-one, course-specific, tutoring. This service will match you with a Peer Tutor for the particular course you are struggling with.
How much does it cost?
The tutoring fee is $8.00 per hour. Students who are experiencing financial barriers are encouraged to visit the SLC Kiosk or ASPIRE AC for information on financial supports available. Payments are made in advance of an appointment.
How do I register for Peer Tutoring?
You can register, book an appointment, or cancel an appointment all online! If you are on-campus, you open the Peer Tutoring Booking System directly. If you are off-campus, you will need use our Remote Access solution (VPN). See more instructions here.
How long will it take for me to match with a tutor?
Peer tutoring appointments must be made 48 hours in advance of the appointment. If special arrangements are made between the tutee and the tutor to meet short notice (less than 48 hours advance notice), written approval from the tutor must be provided by the tutee when booking the appointment.
What can I expect during a Peer Tutoring session?
Tutors act as a guide. They will help you with course material, but they will not complete assignments or homework for you! So make sure you supply all materials that you need for your sessions (textbooks, class notes, questions, etc). Also, remember that this is a one-on-one service only, so don’t bring a friend!
