Mission:
Ottawa Public Health (OPH) provides public health programs and services to individuals and communities while advocating for public policies that make our city and its residents healthier. OPH is a teaching health unit and works with all post-secondary educational institutions in the area.
Volunteer Position Description:
The Program consists of educational and interactive stations that focus on vaping and cannabis use prevention messaging. It is a 3-step process: Educate, Engage, and Inspire. First, youth are educated with fact-based and easy-to-understand information as they rotate through interactive stations educating them on the effects of cannabis use. Next, they are encouraged to pursue their passion by engaging in activities of their choice. Finally, they are inspired to pursue a passion, without the use of cannabis. Feedback from students and teachers will be completed at the end for the program.
- Assist with set up/ tear down of the event
- Assist PHN at one of the following stations:
(1) Virtual reality (set up/program goggles);
(2) Brain 360 (Set up tables and guide students to complete student hand out activity sheet);
(3) Cannabis goggle (Assist nurse with explaining activity and carrying out logistics of activity) - Hand out client satisfaction surveys and resource cards
- Answer logistical questions and defer questions to PHNS as needed
- Wear OPH vest
Volunteer Requirements:
- Police record check
- Minimum 19 years of age
- Own vehicle
- Standing for long periods of time
- Training required
