The Tip of the Iceberg: Have an Attitude of Gratitude

Thanksgiving is just around the corner – and whether you’re celebrating or simply enjoying a well-earned break, this season is a great opportunity to reflect on what you’re thankful for.

Gratitude plays an important part in your overall mental wellness. Focusing on good things in your life can help you feel happier and gain a more positive outlook. It boosts your resilience – when you regularly focus on the positive, you train your brain to shift perspective more easily in stressful times.

Gratitude also helps you feel more connected. Thanking your friends is a simple but powerful way to show you value them. And when people see your uplifting attitude, they’ll want to spend more time with you.

Being thankful is an important tool to keep in your mental wellness toolbox… and it’s not limited to Thanksgiving. Here are 4 steps you can take every day to develop an Attitude of Gratitude that lasts all year round:

Think about it: Take time to pause and reflect on all the people and experiences you are thankful for. Focus on the joy you feel as you bring them to mind.

Write it down: Keep a gratitude journal, and take a few minutes each day to record what you’re grateful for.

Express it: Make a habit of talking about gratitude. Tell others you are thankful for them, and be specific on the reasons why. How you express it is up to you – whether it’s verbal, a quick text, or a letter.

Seek and share it: Find others who are grateful and surround yourself with them. Gratitude has a ripple effect!

What are you thankful for today?
