Mission: The Workers’ History Museum of Ottawa is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to the preservation of workers’ history in the greater capital area.

Volunteer Position Description: We are looking for a new webmaster. This resume strengthening volunteer position is ideal for individuals wanting to pursue a career in Software Development. Our current webmaster will offer ongoing mentorship and always be available to assist. You will receive exposure to software development as it occurs in the workplace. Tasks include:

– checking in code using GIT
– creating and merging pull requests
– creating automated tests with CodeCeption
– building Docker images and utilizing containers
– building new pages with SASS, HTML, TWIG and JS
– maintaining our Continuous Development and Integration pipelines
– creating and maintaining new tooling to aid current and future developers
– contributing to our Wiki

Experience in the following technologies are essential; CSS, HTML, JS, PHP and Linux (Ubuntu). Experience in the following technologies is desirable: Git, Docker, Docker-Compose, Python, Bash, SSH, GravCMS, SASS, NPM, TWIG, Grunt, Automated Testing and Vagrant. A candidate’s eagerness to learn, self motivation and passion are more important than their knowledge.
