Community Project Highlights (November)

In November, our #ACVolunteers worked on many exciting projects such as Rogers Hometown Hockey which took place at Algonquin College, and helped the community get into the holiday spirit. Check out highlights below!
The Snowsuit Fund
At this annual Community Project, volunteers served clients and stocked snowsuits in the warehouse for The Snowsuit Fund. This Ottawa-based charity raises funds for the purchase and distribution of snowsuits to children in need, 15 years and under, in our community. More Snowsuit Fund photos →
Parkdale Food Cupboard
Our volunteers helped Parkdale Food Cupboard’s “Fill the Freezer” program, which allows community members and groups to work together to create nutritious foods for those in need. Students worked together to make bean soup, chicken noodle soup, and delicious baked goods. More Parkdale Food Cupboard photos →
Tree Planting
Teaming up with Algonquin College’s Office of Applied Research and Innovation, students volunteered on an exciting new project to restore shoreline health in the Muskrat Lake Watershed. Volunteers worked alongside staff and students from the Environmental Management and Assessment program to plant trees near Muskrat Lake.
Rogers Hometown Hockey
With over 8,000 participants coming to the Algonquin College campus for Rogers Hometown Hockey, our volunteers helped make this event possible. Volunteers were engaged with the public, assisted with site maintenance, operated the ball hockey rinks, and handled food. It was a thrill to see our community engaged, show our Algonquin College spirit all weekend, and see Algonquin College represented on a national broadcast! More Rogers Hometown Hockey photos →
United Way Campaign (Pembroke)
Volunteers at the Pembroke Campus United Way Campaign raised $1684 to support local organization like Boys and Girls Club of Pembroke, Family and Children’s Services of Renfrew County, the Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre, ELEVATE, Dial 211 and more.
Harmony House Pop-up
Students made necklaces, bracelets, and wrote motivational messages for the mothers and their children at Harmony House, a second-stage shelter for women and their children who are survivors of violence. More Harmony House Pop-Up photos →
Peter D. Clark Retirement Home and Ronald McDonald House
These two Community Projects involved spreading the holiday spirit. Groups of students went to Peter D. Clark Long Term Care Home and the Ronald McDonald House to decorate the residences in time for the holidays.
