Community Project Highlights (September)

From welcoming new students to Algonquin, to making Petrie Island sparkle – our Community Project volunteers kicked off the new school year by making a big impact on campus, and beyond. Here are a few highlights!

Residence Move-In and AC Day 1

The first week of school saw 280 upper-year volunteers coming together to help students move into Residence, welcome new students to campus at AC Day 1, and pack treat bags for the Ottawa Mission at our AC Day 1 Pop-Up Community Project. Helping with Furniture

Our Community Project volunteers were out in full force at the Old Ottawa South Porch Sale! They helped out with the sale and a BBQ fundraiser in support of Helping with Furniture – a charity that provides gently-used furniture and household goods to help families and individuals start new lives in Ottawa.

The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup

Classroom Gardens

Volunteers at the Classroom Gardens Community Project

Our volunteers helped build classroom gardens in partnership with the Ottawa Network For Education, in support of an exciting new pilot project that’s bringing indoor gardening to over 40 schools across the city. This initiative is an an innovative (and tasty!) way for kids to learn about plants, nutrition, and entrepreneurship. More Classroom Gardens photos (September) →

GLAD Cleaning the CapitalVolunteers at Glad's Cleaning the Capital

Fall Open House (Pembroke)

Student volunteers helped make the Pembroke Fall Open House a success, as they greeted visitors, gave tours of the campus, and gave prospective students a glimpse into everything Algonquin has to offer.

Emergency Evacuation Exercise at Pembroke Lodge (Perth)

Students assisted with a mock evacuation of residents at the Lanark Lodge Nursing Home. They worked closely with local emergency crews and nursing home staff to help coordinate this important emergency preparedness exercise.
