Mission: The Glebe Centre is a not for profit long term care home offering services for both long term care residents and community support for clients living within our catchment area. We draw inspiration from our long history of excellence in care and innovation. We are a 254 bed facility providing nursing care and programs designed to meet the physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of older adults living in our home. We advocate for a strong collective voice from clients, residents, families, staff, volunteers and community partners.

Volunteer Position Description: Volunteers are needed for Google Street View Bike Around for seniors with memory loss. Google Maps has collaborated with a researcher to develop the use of Street View technology to help dementia clients preserve forgotten memories. Bike Around is a stationary bike that is paired with Google Street View to take participants on a virtual ride down memory lane. We input the address of a place that means something to the individual and then use pedals and handlebars to ‘bike around” old neighborhoods. Our strongest memories are intensely tied to locations.

Students will receive training and support, the program is focused on asking residents active questions about what they are seeing to encourage memories. Volunteers will document outcomes, must be present, and engaged with the resident during the activity.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Police Record Check
  • Minimum 19 Years of Age
  • Training Required
