Volunteer Position Title: Safer Partying Outreach Team ( SPOT)

Mission: To provide support, prevention, education and outreach services from an integrated anti-racism anti-oppression social justice framework that promotes the holistic wellbeing of those living with, affected by, impacted by and at risk of HIV/AIDS in Ottawa.
Responsibilities:
• Support development of new outreach strategies for communities impacted by HIV.
• Set up displays with information and safer sex supplies.
• Ability to meet scheduled commitments or to inform the Men’s Outreach Coordinator when unable with reasonable notice.
• Mingle with people at events in a friendly, professional manner.
• Keep track of statistics. There will be statistical tracking sheets in the supply bag.
• Answer questions from community members around sex and sexuality, risk reduction, condom use, and other elements of sexual health promotion and prevention work.
• Advocate for sex positivity, harm reduction, anti-oppressive approaches, and the rights of People with HIV/AIDS to make choices in accordance with their own values.
• Provide feedback regarding effectiveness, nature of questions asked at venues, demand for outreach.
• Check in with the Men’s Outreach Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator around successes, challenges, and changes regarding outreach.
Recommended Qualities and Skills:
• Friendly, respectful, and sex-positive.
• Between 18 and 35 years of age
• Strong research skills regarding safer sex approaches, HIV/AIDS news, and outreach strategies.
• Able to contribute to outreach program design.
• Able to maintain appropriate boundaries at outreach venues.
• Comfort talking openly and frankly about all aspects of sexuality
• Engaging
